Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Mai Van Khiem - Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting gave specific recommendations to the people.
Sir, could you please tell us about the weather trend nationwide during the holiday from April 30 to May 1?
- From the night of April 29 to May 1, the weather in many areas will have a clear differentiation.
The area where there is a possibility of rain during the holiday is the northern provinces. In the North and North Central regions, from the evening of April 30 to May 1, there is a possibility of showers and thunderstorms, with some places having heavy rain. From May 2, the rain will decrease, the day will be sunny, and there will be no signs of hot weather during this period.
In the Central Central and South Central regions, the weather is generally stable, with little rain, but there may be local heat waves during the day. In the South Central region, on January 2, there is a possibility of scattered showers and thunderstorms in some places.

The Central Highlands and the Southern Weather can facilitate the organization of events on the occasion of the ceremony on April 30. The Central Highlands will be sunny during the day, the South on April 30 is likely to occur hot sun.
Weather information in Ho Chi Minh City on April 30 is of particular interest, so we have updated it with each time frame.
From 0:00 to 7:00 on April 30, there is no possibility of rain with a temperature of about 27 - 28 degrees Celsius. From 7:00 to 13:00, it will be sunny with a temperature of about 29 - 34 degrees Celsius. From 13:00 - 19:00, the temperature will also be high, about 30 - 35 degrees Celsius. From 19:30 on April 30 to May 1, the temperature will be about 27 - 28 degrees Celsius.
From the evening of May 1 to May 4, the Central Highlands and the South are likely to experience showers and thunderstorms.
Because it is the time of changing seasons, thunderstorms can appear very quickly within about one to two hours.
We have a plan to continuously monitor this to warn people in a timely manner.
This holiday also coincides with the time of high tides in the South. What warnings do you have about this phenomenon?
- During this holiday, a noteworthy point is the high tide in the South, lasting from the night of April 29 to May 1.
This high tide may cause local flooding on some roads and low-lying areas in Nha Be district, district 7, district 8 (HCMC) and some areas in Can Tho and Vinh Long, especially in case of rain.
The flooding time mainly occurs in the early morning (4am - 6am) and evening (17am - 7pm) - coinciding with the time when people participate in traffic, so special attention is needed.
With the above weather patterns, what recommendations do you have for people and event organizers during the holiday?
- The meteorological agency recommends that outdoor event organizers proactively take action against unfavorable weather, especially rain, strong winds, hot weather and flooding due to high tides. It is necessary to have a plan to cover equipment, set up a solid tent, and at the same time ensure that rescue, medical, and fire prevention and fighting vehicles are always ready.
On the part of the people, they should prepare umbrellas, raincoats, drinking water, etc., especially if participating in festivals, tourism activities or gathering in large crowds. Hot weather above 35 degrees Celsius can cause heatstroke and dehydration. Showers and thunderstorms can disrupt events, causing slippery and dangerous travel.
People should regularly update weather forecasts to have appropriate plan adjustments.
Sincerely thank you!
