The meteorological agency has forecast rain developments in the next 24 - 48 hours due to the impact of a cold air mass compressing and pushing a low pressure trough.
The Northwest region, the north of Phu Tho and Tuyen Quang from the evening of June 8 to June 9, is forecast to have heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 60 - 120mm, locally over 250mm.
Thanh Hoa and Nghe An from the evening of June 8 to June 9, are forecast to have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 40 - 80mm, locally very heavy rain over 150mm.
On the night of June 9, the Northwest and North Central regions will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 15 - 40mm, locally very heavy rain over 80mm.
From June 10, heavy rain in the Northwest and North Central regions is forecast to gradually decrease.
In other parts of the Northern region from the evening of June 8 to the early morning of June 9, it is forecast to have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall of 20-50mm, locally very heavy rain over 100mm.
The meteorological agency warns of the risk of heavy rain with rainfall greater than 100mm within 3 hours.
Warning in thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind with disaster risk level being level 1.
Heavy rain is likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes.
