The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued a noteworthy weather trend forecast for January. This is the time when the northeast monsoon operates strongly, affecting both weather patterns at sea and on land. Timely grasping climate trends will help people be more proactive in production and daily activities.
Regarding the forecast of the average temperature trend, in January 2026, the temperature in most areas across the country is generally at nearly the same level, in some places lower than 1 - 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to the multi-year average of the same period.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Hoa - Deputy Head of the Climate Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the weather in January 2026 marks the main winter period with characteristic climate developments across regions.
Cold air tends to be nearly as active as the average of many years in the same period. There is a possibility of widespread severe cold and frost appearing, concentrated in the Northern and North Central regions, and may be accompanied by frost and freezing in the Northern mountainous regions" - Mr. Hoa said.
Strong winds due to the influence of cold air can cause big waves at sea and affect the activities of ships and boats. Thunderstorms, tornadoes, and lightning strikes can negatively affect traffic, production and community health activities.
Previously, in December 2025, there were 3 cold air waves on December 3rd, December 13th and the night of December 24th. In which, it is noteworthy that the cold air wave on the night of December 24th caused wind at Bach Long Vy Station to be strong at level 7, gusting at level 9 and causing rain and scattered light rain for the Northern and North Central regions on the night of December 24th and December 25th. The area from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai has rain, moderate rain, locally heavy rain on December 25th - 26th; the highest temperature is from 19 - 22 degrees C and the lowest daily temperature decreases to 12 - 15 degrees C, mountainous areas 8 - 11 degrees C, in some places lower.
Regarding the rain trend, in January 2026, the total rainfall in all areas is generally close to the multi-year average, especially the coastal area from Hue to Quang Ngai is lower than the multi-year average of the same period (commonly from 40 - 60mm).
Mr. Hoa provided information and forecast that in January, provinces and cities from Nghe An - Hue and the South Central Coast are likely to experience widespread rains. Across the country, dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind are likely to appear.
Regarding dangerous weather phenomena, in January 2026, storms/tropical depressions are less likely to appear in the East Sea area. According to multi-year average data, in January in the East Sea there were 0.3 storms/tropical depressions, not making landfall in Vietnam.
In the context of climate change, weather, and climate are increasingly complex with many dangerous and extreme forms such as short-term heavy rains, flash floods, landslides...
Therefore, the meteorological agency requests all levels of government and people to regularly update and integrate meteorological and hydrological forecasting and warning information in short-term bulletins of 1-3 days, to promptly adjust production plans, appropriate response plans, especially suitable reservoir operation plans, ensuring safety of works and downstream areas, along with ensuring safety for production and people's livelihoods.
It's a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit.
