This is the 7th year that the World Cleanup Day Campaign has been launched in Vietnam, calling on the community to join hands to protect a green, clean and beautiful environment.
This year, the event has the theme "5% pioneering - Global spread", aiming to mobilize 5% of the world's population to take action for the environment.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Cam Tu, National Coordinator of Let's Do It Vietnam, this year's campaign emphasizes that anyone can make changes, regardless of whether a celebrity or a leader. With just small actions, each individual has become a part of the pioneering group, contributing to spreading a positive effect in the community. Cleaning up the environment not only helps form a new habit - giving up littering, towards classification, reduction and reuse.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Cam Tu said that the campaign does not stop at collecting garbage but also focuses on raising public awareness. Volunteers are instructed on waste classification at source, identifying recyclable waste, hazardous waste such as batteries, electronic devices, and syringes to have a safe treatment plan. "We expect each individual to maintain these habits right at home, contributing to reducing pressure on the urban waste treatment system" - Ms. Tu emphasized.
At Hanoi, the event attracted more than 300 volunteers of all ages, from students to the elderly, directly collecting household waste, disposable plastic, and medical masks along Pham Hung Street. The organizing committee also fully prepared gloves, garbage clips, and bags to ensure the safety of participants.
Nguyen Dinh Hai Lam - Student of National Economics University shared: "Today, when I directly participate in cleaning up trash and seeing the filled trash bags collected, I feel like I am contributing a small part of my efforts to protect the environment. Today's event not only helps me realize my personal responsibility towards the environment, but also inspires me to live more meaningfully every day".

According to the organizers, not only in Hanoi, the 2025 World Cleanup Day will also take place simultaneously in many provinces and cities across the country, such as Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Can Tho, Quy Nhon, Quang Ngai... with the participation of thousands of volunteers, collecting more than 3 tons of waste, mostly single-use plastic such as straws, styrofoam boxes, plastic cups.
In parallel with the garbage collection activities, Let's Do It Vietnam also organizes environmental education programs for students; training businesses and communities on garbage classification and sustainable development. According to Ms. Tu, combining direct action with long-term education will help the campaign spread more widely.
Previously, in December 2023, the World Cleanup Day was officially included in the United Nations' " international Days and Weeks" Schedule, recognizing the important role of this event in solving global environmental challenges through community mobilization in a strategic and sustainable way.
