Lam Dong establishes inspection team for serious cracking and subsidence points in Quang Son

Lam Dong - The provincial working delegation will inspect the cracked and subsided land area in Dak Snao village, Quang Son commune to assess the risk and agree on a handling plan.

On September 18, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee issued a document assigning the Department of Agriculture and Environment to preside over and coordinate with departments, branches and Quang Son Commune People's Committee to inspect the situation of prolonged subsidence and land cracks in Dak Snao village.

Previously, the Civil Defense Command of Quang Son commune had a quick report on the subsidence situation and the appearance of serious soil cracks in this area.

The Provincial People's Committee requested the working group to determine the scope and extent of subsidence and land cracks; assess the risk of affecting the lives and property of people and works in the area.

At the same time, propose solutions for handling, warning and ensuring safety in the short and long term. The actual inspection is expected to take place at 9:30 am on September 21st in the subsidence area in Dak Snao village.

The working delegation was chaired by Mr. Nguyen Ha Loc, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Member of the Provincial Civil Defense Command.

At the scene, the delegation will assess the subsidence situation, damage, and natural disaster risks that may occur in the near future and agree on handling and overcoming plans.

After a period of heavy rain, cracks appeared in the Dak Snao village area, affecting people's houses and production land.

Mr. Chau Ngoc Luong, Provincial Party Committee Member, Secretary of the Party Committee of Quang Son commune, said that the locality regularly monitors developments in the subsidence and cracked land area; assigns leaders and forces to be on duty 24/24 to proactively respond to weather conditions.

According to Mr. Luong, as soon as unusual developments were detected, the Party Committee and commune authorities directed the implementation of warning measures and mobilized the relocation of households at risk of being affected to ensure safety.

Relocation and support for people are being actively and urgently coordinated by forces. The locality has also proposed to departments and branches of the province to soon inspect, determine the cause and assess the subsidence situation to have handling directions, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property" - Mr. Luong said.

Quang Son Commune People's Committee was requested to prepare relevant documents to report to the working delegation. The Sub-Department of Irrigation and Water Resources was also assigned to prepare documents to serve the working session.

As Lao Dong Newspaper has reported: The situation of subsidence and land cracks in Dak Snao village, Quang Son commune, affecting 79 households with 454 people; the locality has organized the relocation of people to safe places.

According to the Civil Defense Command of Quang Son commune, the phenomenon of soil cracking appeared after a prolonged heavy rain from August 31st to September 14th.

As of September 17, the affected area is about 4ha wide, with an average subsidence depth of 20cm. The cracks extend about 300m along the hillside and residential areas, 6-17cm wide and tend to continue to expand.

No casualties have been recorded, but subsidence affects houses and production land.

The locality arranged an evacuation area of 3,000m2, building 9 temporary houses. On the night of September 17, 215 people including the elderly, women and children were relocated.
