On July 28, Tuyen Quang Commune People's Committee (Lam Dong province) said it had just received a rare python weighing about 13kg voluntarily handed over by people. The locality is completing procedures to release this individual back to the natural environment if the legal owner cannot be identified.
Previously, on the morning of July 27, Mr. Tran Van Thao (born 1975, residing in Tien Thanh village, Tuyen Quang commune) discovered a python clinging along the Cat River bank and crawling towards his family's chicken coop.
Mr. Thao used a rope to arrest it but tried not to injure the python. After that, he proactively contacted and voluntarily handed over the python to the local authorities.
After receiving it, Tuyen Quang Commune People's Committee coordinated with functional forces to manage and monitor the health status of the python individual. Through inspection, the animal has stable health, alertness and good reflexes.
Initial inspection determined that this is a python (scientific name Python molurus), belonging to group IIB - a group of endangered, precious, rare forest animals and listed in the Vietnam Red Book.
Tuyen Quang Commune People's Committee has issued a notice to verify the owner or legal manager of the python individual. If no one comes to claim it by July 31st, the locality will coordinate with specialized agencies to complete the necessary procedures to release the python individual back to the natural environment according to legal regulations.
