On July 28, Ia Ly Commune Police, Gia Lai province, coordinated with the Commune Forest Protection Department to receive a golden mountain turtle individual (scientific name Indotestudo elongata) voluntarily handed over by Ms. Hoang Thi Phuong (born 1968, residing in Ia Lam village, Ia Ly commune).
Previously, while farming in the garden area of Ia Lam village, Ms. Phuong discovered a golden mountain turtle weighing about 3kg and 30 cm long.
Recognizing that this is a rare and precious wild animal that needs to be protected, she proactively contacted Ia Ly Commune Police to notify and hand over the turtle to functional agencies.
Immediately after receiving the information, Ia Ly Commune Police coordinated with the local Forest Protection Department to conduct inspection, verification, and establish procedures for receiving it in accordance with regulations.
The individual golden mountain turtle belongs to Group IIB - endangered, precious, and rare forest animals protected by law.
After completing the necessary procedures, functional agencies will take care of and assess the health status and release this individual back to the natural environment when conditions are met.
