The Law on Environmental Protection 2020 stipulates that from January 1, 2025, waste classification at source must be implemented synchronously nationwide. This is considered one of the important solutions to reduce environmental pollution, save resources and promote waste recycling activities.
According to environmental experts, classifying waste right from households will contribute to optimizing the entire waste treatment chain, significantly reducing collection and transportation costs and increasing recycling efficiency. If implemented synchronously, this solution can help reduce the amount of landfill - the treatment method is putting great pressure on current waste treatment areas.
However, nearly a year after the regulation took effect, the work of classifying waste at source has not yet achieved the consistency and efficiency as expected. Not only in large cities, many localities across the country are still facing difficulties in implementation. People's awareness and habits of waste classification are still limited, while the collection infrastructure, equipment and treatment models between localities are not yet synchronous.
These shortcomings have caused the goal of forming a waste classification system at source nationwide to not be as effective as expected, requiring stronger solutions in the coming time.
In this spirit, on November 29, Lao Dong Newspaper will organize a seminar "Implementing regulations on waste classification: Difficulty is still difficult" to assess the current situation, point out the causes of problems in the implementation process, and discuss and propose specific solutions to implement waste classification at source according to the roadmap.
Attending the seminar were Dr. Tran Van Mieu - Vice President of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment; Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang, Deputy Director of Urenco Hoan Kiem Branch, Urenco Hanoi Company.
We respectfully invite readers to follow.
