According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, this morning (January 24), a low pressure area has just formed in the eastern East Sea, at about 14 degrees north latitude - 119 degrees east longitude.
It is forecasted that in the next 24 hours, the low pressure area is likely to strengthen into a tropical depression with a probability of about 70%.
The tropical depression will then move northwest, towards the North of the East Sea.
This tropical depression is likely to cause bad weather in the eastern area of the northern part of the East Sea, the sea area of Hoang Sa island district.
Fishermen and boats operating in the above area should closely monitor the forecast information to avoid entering the danger zone.
The meteorological agency added that there is currently a low pressure trough with an axis passing through the central East Sea. In the central East Sea area, the sea area from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to Kien Giang and the Gulf of Thailand will have showers and thunderstorms. Phu Quy Island has southwest winds of level 5, sometimes level 6.
Day and night on June 24, the eastern sea area of the North East Sea, the central and southern East Sea (including the Truong Sa archipelago), the sea area from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to Kien Giang and the Gulf of Thailand will have showers and thunderstorms. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, strong gusts of wind of level 6 - 7 and waves over 2m high.
The sea area from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau has strong southwest winds of level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 7; waves from 1.5 - 2.5m high; rough seas. All ships operating in the above areas are at risk of being affected by tornadoes and strong gusts of wind.
