On December 20, teacher Huynh Thi Thuy Dung - a teacher at Vo Thi Sau Primary School (Quang Phu Commune, Lam Dong Province) - could not hide her joy when the porch over the boarding house of students was just completed.
That simple porch is the wish that she has cherished for many years so that every meal of the children no longer has to worry about the sun and rain on the way from classroom to the dining table.
That is something I have wanted for a long time, just to make them feel more secure every day at school, Ms. Dung shared.
Previously, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front coordinated with SABECO and Dai Doan Ket Newspaper to organize the "Fire-breaking Famous" Award. Encouraged by the Fatherland Front at all levels and her colleagues, Ms. Dung registered to participate and was honored in the Top 3 "C Hurricane Interactive Award", receiving a prize worth 30 million VND.
When holding the award in hand, the first thing I think of is students in difficult circumstances in the locality, said Ms. Dung.
Thinking is doing, she spent all this money to support poor students at schools and neighboring schools. From the kindness of a teacher in a remote area, 34 students in difficult circumstances were given health insurance cards, making them feel more secure on their way to class.
In addition, Ms. Dung also bought materials and hired workers to make additional attic to cover the boarding house for students of Vo Thi Sau Primary School. The remaining amount of money was used by her to give gifts to encourage them to overcome difficulties and study well.
The quiet but loving spirit of teacher Huynh Thi Thuy Dung has given the poor in remote areas more confidence and motivation, helping them to step more firmly on their journey to the future.
Quang Phu commune is a remote area of Lam Dong province. In particular, most of the people are ethnic minorities, and their lives are still difficult. Therefore, maintaining the student population is always a big challenge for the school.
For nearly 10 years, teacher Huynh Thi Thuy Dung has cooked nearly 200,000 free meals for poor students, mobilized resources to build boarding houses, contributing to keeping them going to school.
Not only supporting students in the school, she also connected many benefactors to raise sponsorship funds for more than 90 students in difficult circumstances, with a total amount of more than 1.5 billion VND.
Thanks to that, 7 students have been supported to build houses, many others have been given the opportunity to learn a trade or study at university until they graduate.
