Proficient in expertise, active in union activities
Graduating in 1998 and becoming a teacher, Ms. Hoang Thi Mai Huong - an English teacher at Dai Thanh Primary School (Loc An commune, Phu Loc district) shared that she always keeps in mind President Ho Chi Minh's teaching: “Whatever you do, you must have a heart and love for the profession to succeed.”
She believes that being a teacher is not only about imparting knowledge but also teaching with heart and dedication. Additionally, she always leads by example in innovating teaching methods, applying information technology in teaching, and received the Encouragement Prize for E-Learning Lesson Plans awarded by the Phu Loc District Department of Education and Training in 2017.
In union activities at the grassroots level, Ms. Huong always actively participates in movements launched by the union organization.
Especially during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, she was one of the most active union members. Her contributions were recognized with a certificate of merit from the Chairman of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee for outstanding achievements in COVID-19 prevention and control in 2021.
With her outstanding achievements, in May 2024, Ms. Huong received a certificate of merit from the Executive Committee of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Labor Federation for promoting learning and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality, and style.
Helping others brings joy and happiness
During her teaching at school, she always cares about the lives and circumstances of her students, especially those who are orphaned or in particularly difficult situations.
Initially, seeing poor students without money for school, some without parents, or without a home, she mobilized friends and relatives to raise funds for their education and build charity houses to help her students.
After a year of doing charity work for students, her family, friends, and relatives encouraged and sponsored more funds, so she expanded her help to include lonely elderly people, disabled individuals, and orphaned children.
Since 2016, for each difficult case, Ms. Huong first creates a plan and estimates the necessary tasks to determine the specific amount of money needed after getting approval from local authorities or the school.
After school hours or on Saturdays and Sundays, she often brings “smiles” to visit those in difficult circumstances.
“We not only bring them money and rice but must be friendly, caring, and always have a smile on our face, always listen, and be close to understand the pain, misfortune, and difficulties they face in life,” Ms. Huong shared.
During summer holidays, she often goes to high mountainous areas like A Luoi, Nam Dong, Phuc Loc Village, Xuan Loc commune to visit and give gifts to people in difficult areas; giving gifts to people in difficult circumstances in provinces like Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Nghe An; visiting and giving gifts at child protection centers, orphanages.
It is known that in recent years, she has connected funding sources to sponsor 18 orphans, 12 children with difficult circumstances suffering from serious illnesses, 20 elderly sick and lonely people, and provides monthly financial support to the Phu Loc District Blind Association and many other difficult cases.
Additionally, Ms. Huong also connects support for poor, studious students: The case of Truong Duc Phuc, a student at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, was sponsored with tuition fees for 7 years with a total amount of 175 million VND (25 million VND per year); Truong Thi My Duyen, a student at Vietnam-Korea University of Danang, was sponsored with tuition fees for 4 years with a total amount of 60 million VND (15 million VND per year).
