Initial information, at around 11:20 a.m. on February 28, on his way home from militia training, when he reached a section near Diem Cong Con Ba (in Hong Thuan commune, Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh province), Mr. Nguyen Van Hao (born in 1991) - a grassroots security force and militia of Giao Huong commune (Giao Thuy district) - discovered a woman praying for help in the middle of the Red River.
Discovering that the woman was in danger, Mr. Hao immediately jumped into the river to save the woman and bring her safely to shore. Through verification, the woman named P.T.C (born in 1960), residing in Hong Thuan commune), Mrs. C unfortunately slipped and fell into the river.
Sharing more with Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Hao said that he and his uncle had just returned home from militia training, passing through the area near the confluence of Con Ba Islet where the incident occurred.
"At that time, I looked down at the Red River and saw people roaming and wading in the water, about 7 to 8m from the shore. Immediately, I told him to stop the car, without thinking about it, I went down to the river to swim to the person calling for help and pulled her to shore. The river water was flowing out to sea at that time, the weather was cold, so it was difficult to bring her to shore. When we arrived at the shore, because she was weak and cold, we took the militia shirt to wear to her. After that, I contacted Hong Thuan Commune Police to inform her family," said Mr. Hao.
After saving the woman, Mr. Hao did not know that his brave act of saving people would be spread on social networks and praised by netizens.
"I think the first thing to do when seeing someone in distress is to help first. Whoever was in my case would have done the same," Mr. Hao shared.
The commander of Hong Thuan Commune Police said that Mr. Hao's actions are an action that needs to be commended. The commune police have reported to authorities at all levels and proposed to commend and reward Mr. Hao's actions.
