On August 19, Lieutenant Colonel Mai Anh Tu - Head of Huong Phung Commune Police, Quang Tri province said that the unit had just completed verification and returned 24.9 million VND and many assets to the person who dropped them.
Previously, at about 7:30 pm on August 14, Mr. Ho Van Chuong (born in 1988) and Mr. Ho Van Van (born in 1979), both residing in Cooc village, Huong Phung commune, on their way home from work, discovered a student backpack falling on the road from Khe Van bridge (Km29, National Highway 9) to Huong Linh village.
Through inspection, inside the backpack there were 24.9 million VND in cash and some personal belongings and items.
Mr. Chuong and Van are both ethnic minorities, with difficult circumstances. After discovering the assets, the two people proactively contacted the on-duty police of Huong Phung commune to report.
Because it was raining heavily at this time, it was dark, and traveling was difficult, at about 7 am on August 15, Mr. Chuong directly went to the headquarters of Huong Phung Commune Police to hand over all the property he picked up.
Immediately after receiving the information, Huong Phung Commune Police reviewed and verified the information, and at the same time coordinated with forces participating in protecting security and order at the grassroots level in Huong Linh and Cooc villages to find the owners of the assets.
At about 9 am on the same day, Mr. Ho Van Hoa (born in 1954, residing in Huong Linh village) came to the commune police to report the dropping of his backpack.
Mr. Hoa said that after the family organized a funeral for his son, he gathered the funeral money and nearly 25 million VND he saved into a backpack. Because there was no safe cabinet in the house, he often carried money with him when going far, and then accidentally dropped money.
After comparing the related information, Huong Phung Commune Police determined that Mr. Hoa was the owner of the above assets and proceeded to hand over all 24.9 million VND and items in the backpack according to regulations.
Receiving the money back, Mr. Hoa said that when he discovered that he had dropped his backpack, he was worried and tormented himself. When he heard Huong Phung Commune Police post information about someone picking up property and looking for the owner to return it, he shed tears.
After that, Mr. Hoa wrote a letter of thanks to officers and soldiers of Huong Phung Commune Police and two kind people.
