The project was implemented from compensation funds of Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation related to the marine environmental incident that occurred in the Central region many years ago.

This component project has a total investment of 220 billion VND, invested by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thua Thien Hue province, started construction in 2019 and is expected to be completed in 2021.

However, the project is behind schedule and will not be completed until the end of 2023; at the same time, the project will be handed over to the Thua Thien Hue Fishing Port Management Board for management.

It is expected that after completion, Thuan An port will ensure the scale for ships to dock and depart with a minimum capacity of 20,000 tons/year, ensuring technical criteria according to EU regulations. The port will meet the anchoring and storm shelter needs of 500 ships of all types with a length of 6m or more.

Currently, the application for land and water surface allocation for Thuan An fishing port has been sent to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and relevant agencies for appraisal and processing. After completing this procedure, it will be submitted to the competent authority for consideration and announcement of the port opening.

Based on the stable old status, the relevant departments and branches have submitted and the Provincial People's Committee has considered and approved the investment decision for the Thuan An fishing port project.

Only when we went through the procedures to apply for the announcement of the opening of Thuan An fishing port, did we discover that we needed a decision to grant land and water surface use rights, and therefore had to make additional arrangements.

In addition, the Thuan An fishing port project is still stuck in the current situation of the channel not being dredged, causing difficulties for fishing boats entering and leaving the port. This is also a cause affecting the procedures for applying for the announcement of the opening of the port for Thuan An fishing port.
