AI tutoring will help students cultivate self-learning ability

The Ministry of Education and Training is researching and developing an AI tutoring application to support students' self-study, contributing to improving learning efficiency.

For many years, the story of extra classes has always been a concern for parents and the education sector. Many families have to spend a significant amount of money on their children's extra classes or lack guides when their children study at home.

In many rural and mountainous areas, students do not have the conditions to access quality supplementary classes.

An "AI tutor" if built on the foundation of a formal general education program can help narrow this gap.

Students can ask questions at any time, be explained in many different ways, practice with a system of questions suitable for their abilities and receive feedback almost immediately.

More importantly, AI can help form self-learning ability, a core skill in modern society.

Instead of completely relying on extra classes, students are encouraged to actively learn, ask questions, self-check knowledge and overcome their weaknesses.

Knowing how to study on their own, students will study more effectively not only at school but also throughout their lives.

This proposal is also consistent with the requirements of education innovation, in which learners are the center and technology is the supporting tool.

AI does not replace teachers but helps teachers have more "assistants" to personalize learning. Teachers still play the role of orienting, inspiring, and training thinking, ethics and life skills, values that technology cannot replace.

However, for "AI tutoring" to be truly effective, it is necessary to ensure data quality and accuracy of content.

AI must be built on the basis of programs, textbooks and knowledge standards issued by the Ministry of Education and Training; and at the same time have a mechanism for verification and regular updates to avoid providing false information or inappropriate guidance.

AI helps students understand lessons, know how to think and solve problems, AI does not become a tool to do homework for or create a psychology of laziness to think.

The proposal to build AI tutors also shows the determination of the education sector in taking advantage of scientific and technological achievements to solve long-standing problems such as teacher shortages, disparities in learning opportunities and the pressure of extra classes.

To reduce extra classes sustainably, fundamental solutions are still needed as Minister Hoang Minh Son emphasized: enough schools, enough classes, enough teachers and improving the quality of teaching and learning in schools.

But in the digital age, AI can completely become a useful companion for students.

When technology is used properly, all students, whether in urban or remote areas, have more opportunities to access knowledge.
