The heart of the President of Marie Curie School with the children of Lang Nu

Lê Thanh Phong |

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Khang - Chairman of the Board of Marie Curie School (Hanoi) "adopts" until they are 18 years old all the children who escaped the flash flood in Lang Nu village.

Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune (Bao Yen, Lao Cai) was hit by a terrible flash flood on the morning of September 10. Rocks and soil collapsed and buried dozens of houses. The total number of people killed was 52, the number of people missing is currently 14, 87 people are safe. Some children were lucky to survive this terrible disaster.

Some children survived but lost their parents, some still had parents but their families were in extremely difficult circumstances. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Khang’s wish was to make up for this so that these children could continue their education, so that they could have a future. They could not lose their education because of a natural disaster, losing their whole lives ahead.

Among the survivors, there is Nguyen Van Hanh, a 12th grade student at Bao Yen High School No. 1, who became an orphan. Teacher Khang considered Hanh his "grandson" and took care of him until he became a successful student.

After consulting the vice principal of Bao Yen High School No. 1 about the spending situation here, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Khang and Marie Curie School decided to provide support until the age of 18 for the children who escaped the flash flood in Lang Nu, by providing 3 million VND/child/month, through direct transfer to parents or guardians.

For children in remote areas with many difficulties, with 3 million VND per month, they will have enough food and clothing to go to school.

The story of Mr. Nguyen Xuan Khang with the children of Lang Nu touched people's hearts. Not only this small village, but everyone felt happier, lighter, and more worth living when there were still many good things around.

Teachers of Bao Yen High School No. 1 were moved to tears. But their responsibility was heavier, which was to teach and guide the students to study well, not to disappoint the love of Mr. Nguyen Xuan Khang and the teachers of Marie Curie Hanoi School.

Marie Curie Hanoi School was founded by Mr. Nguyen Xuan Khang in 1992, 32 years ago. Adopting children in Lang Nu village is one of the school's many charitable activities. At the end of February 2024, Marie Curie School donated a school to the people of Meo Vac district, Ha Giang province, with a budget of about 100 billion VND.

All of Marie Curie School Hanoi's volunteer work is aimed at education, seeing it as a mission to act and contribute.
