According to the report on the work of the sector, Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court Le Minh Tri and Director of the Institute of the Supreme People's Procuracy Nguyen Huy Tien, during this period, through the enforcement of civil judgments, more than 117,343 billion VND (reaching a rate of 51.5%) was recovered; during the investigation, prosecution and trial, security measures were applied to recover more than 26,215 billion VND.
The prosecution agencies also temporarily detained, seized, and suspended transactions of many other assets such as: 2,876 real estates; more than 2.2 billion shares; 7.8 million USD; 10 million Japanese Yen; 63,900 Euro; 1,080 taels of gold; 36 laptops; 43 cars; 2 oil tankers; 1,288,406 liters of DO oil; 227,204 liters of gasoline; 1 pair of ivory tusks; 2 diamond rings; 1 yacht...
Some cases with high asset recovery include the Tan Hoang Minh case of over 8,000 billion VND; the defendants in the Van Thinh Phat case and SCB Bank voluntarily compensated the consequences of 5,169 billion VND; the Xuyen Viet Oil Company case and some provinces and cities, the Investigation Security Agency temporarily seized 134 savings books with a total amount of 1,320 billion VND...
But, if compared with the amount of assets embezzled and lost, the amount recovered is insignificant. Just take the Van Thinh Phat case to "settle the accounts" and you will see it right away.
People are interested in detecting, investigating and trying cases related to corruption and economic violations, but the most important thing is to recover assets. If this work is not done well, then the fight against corruption cannot be considered successful.
There are many cases where, when searching the homes of the subjects involved, the authorities have seized a lot of assets, so much that people cannot believe why officials have so much money. In cases where the origin of the assets cannot be proven, there are signs of ambiguity and need to be clarified.
At the seminar "Solutions to recover corrupt assets in Ho Chi Minh City" held on October 11, Mr. Ngo Pham Viet, Deputy Director of the Institute of Ho Chi Minh City People's Procuracy, firmly declared: "In the case of corruption crimes of dispersing assets without any intention of recovery, the Institute will propose to prosecute for money laundering."
I completely agree with Mr. Ngo Pham Viet, we must handle this to the end to recover assets, and criminals will be afraid of the law.
Many people transfer money to their spouses or children, and must determine that it is "dissipation of assets" of embezzlement and corruption. Of course, to handle this asset, there must be sufficient evidence to prove the asset is unclear.
The determination to fight corruption is to resolutely recover assets of illegal origin. Recover all money and assets so that criminals have no chance to "enjoy the countryside" after being released from prison, or to "strengthen the lives of their children".
