On the evening of July 14, according to the Ministry of Public Security's Electronic Information Portal, the Office of the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency issued a Decision to prosecute the criminal case for the crime of "Giving and Receiving Bribes" occurring at the Food Safety Department under the Ministry of Health and related companies in Hanoi and provinces and cities nationwide; prosecuted 18 defendants.
The list of defendants prosecuted for the crime of "Receiving bribes" are all officials of the Department of Food Safety. According to the initial investigation results, the suspects received bribes of over 75 billion VND. In which the act of receiving bribes is organized from employees to leaders, centers, and departments.
The money that employees receive from the enterprise will be divided among individuals, especially former Director Nguyen Thanh Phong, who appropriated over 60 billion VND in the period from 2015 to 2024.
The enterprise did not voluntarily give 75 billion VND in bribes, but because it wanted to produce food, it had to be appraised by the Food Safety Department of the Ministry of Health to register and announce the product.
The Food Safety Department has issued more than 10,000 fake food product declaration registration certificates.
Having documents from management agencies and fake functional food production enterprises, launching illegal profits on the market.
Compared to the amount of hundreds of tons sold, the amount of 75 billion VND bribed to the staff of the Department of Food Safety is too " bargain".
The price to pay for the illegitimacy of the Food Safety Department is that consumers have to bear the consequences. The victim who bought and used fake products of this ring did not know who to complain to, did not know where to claim compensation, and did not know how her health was affected.
The Food Safety Department is a "blockage" to protect consumers and the health of the community. But when those assigned important tasks sold themselves for money, people had to live in an unsafe environment because counterfeit goods were rampant.
At the national online conference on assessing the peak period of the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the health sector held on May 23, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan affirmed:
"The production and trading of counterfeit goods, counterfeit goods, and goods of unknown origin... are violations of the law and should be condemned, but counterfeit goods in the health sector are no longer simply commercial fraud but a crime. The use of these items directly affects the health and lives of people".
So, let me ask, how to prevent and protect the production of counterfeit goods from crimes?
