While avoiding bombs in a small cave, 8 youth volunteers including Nguyen Van Hue, Do Thi Loan, Le Thi Luong, Tran Thi To, Le Thi Mai, Hoang Van Vu, Nguyen Mau Ky, Nguyen Van Phuong were stopped inside because the bomb collapsed the cave entrance. It was a bombing on a late autumn afternoon on November 14, 1972.
Eight young volunteers, including four men and four women, went to the Quang Binh frontline when they were in their late teens or early twenties. Hang Tam Co was where they were stationed, fought, and was also their final resting place. Not only the eight young volunteers, but also five artillery soldiers died outside the cave while leveling the ground to clear the line.
The comrades outside tried every way to open the cave but failed. The comrades inside waited in hope. Minutes passed, hours passed, days passed. By the 9th day, there was no more sound coming from inside the cave. The comrades outside could only bow their heads to see them off. After 9 days, everyone had cried until their tears were dry, there was no more to cry.
For 9 days in the dark cave, lacking everything, those young men and women in their twenties fought for their lives until the last minute. They were heroes, adding more beauty to the legendary 20 Quyet Thang road.
The war against America lasted for decades, with countless compatriots and soldiers heroically sacrificing their lives, each sacrifice was noble, beautiful, and heroic. But the sacrifice of the 8 young volunteers at Hang Tam Co is a tragic story, leaving deep emotions in people's hearts.
