On August 21, the City Children's Hospital said that the unit urgently received two biological sisters Q.G (13 years old) and B.L (5 years old, living in Duc Hoa commune, Tay Ninh) in a state of severe burns all over the body after the arson caused by their father.
It is known that at around 6:00 a.m. on August 17, at a rented room in Tay Ninh, the father - who was divorced and did not live with his wife and children - is believed to have poured gasoline on the two sisters, the mother and the entire bedroom on the first floor, then lit the fire with lighters.
The fire then flared up fiercely, causing serious injuries to the whole family. Relatives quickly took the two children to the City Children's Hospital for emergency care.
A 5-year-old boy with second-to-third burns accounted for 70 - 75% of his body, from the head, face, neck, torso, genitals, limbs, accompanied by respiratory burns and sepsis. The child was in shock absorption, had a stiff whole body, black toes, weak pulses 175 times/minute, had to be put on a ventilator and had continuous anti-shock fluids.
The 13-year-old girl suffered from second- to third-degree burns of about 45 - 50% of her body, severe swelling, conjunctival expansion, and signs of burns. Although she was alert and able to answer, she was still facing the risk of septic shock infection, with a heart rate of 160 beats/minute and coal dust in her airway.
The medical team is making efforts and using methods from mechanical ventilation, epidemics to shock prevention and treatment to treat infections to save the lives of the two children.
Not only trying to save children's lives on the operating table and resuscitation room, the City Children's Hospital also accompanies them with many comprehensive solutions, notably the one-stop model - a place to receive and provide comprehensive services for children who are victims of violence, abuse or unexpected pregnancy.
Recently, with the one-stop model coming into operation, the City Children's Hospital has supported, intervened and provided timely services to many cases of children who are victims of violence.
Sharing about the effectiveness of the one-stop model, Dr. Ho Tan Thanh Binh - Deputy Director of the City Children's Hospital said that this model helps children's health protection work to be quick, effective and extended to the community.
