On August 20, Ba Ria General Hospital (Tam Long ward, Ho Chi Minh City) said that it had successfully resuscitated and performed surgery to reconnect and preserve 2 lower limbs for a male patient who suffered a serious work accident, with the condition of almost severed right foot and left ankle.
Previously, at about 8:20 am on August 19, a 59-year-old male patient was working when he suddenly had an accident, was given first aid by colleagues, garo controlled bleeding and quickly transferred to Ba Ria General Hospital within 30 minutes. This created favorable conditions for doctors and nurses to deploy emergency care and emergency surgery.
Through examination, the patient had almost completely severed the right foot, only a part of the calf skin remained; at the same time, almost completely severed the left ankle area, and a part of the back skin remained. Recognizing this as a complex injury related to many important structures of the two lower limbs, the leaders of Ba Ria General Hospital quickly coordinated and mobilized teams from many specialties to urgently deploy emergency surgery.
In the surgery lasting about 4 hours, the two surgical teams performed bone joining, tendon stitching, blood vessel and nerve stitching, gradually restoring the anatomical structure and restoring circulation for the two injured limbs. Through this, the main lesions were treated, the circulation of the two limbs was restored, creating conditions for the process of limb preservation and functional recovery later.
On August 20, the patient's condition after successfully reconnecting 2 nearly severed limbs has improved positively, recording warm pink feet, good movement and feeling.
According to Ba Ria General Hospital, in cases of severed limbs, re-implantation of circulation and preservation of limbs is only the first step. Patients continue to need to be closely monitored for blood supply, wound condition, risk of infection, bone healing as well as tendon and nerve recovery.
Once stable, the rehabilitation process will be implemented step by step, in accordance with the progress of the injury, aiming to maximize the preservation of the functions of both lower limbs.
In this case, initial first aid, garo hemorrhage control and short-term transfer... all play an important role in increasing the chance of limb preservation for patients. Proper and timely treatment during incidents and accidents contributes to creating more opportunities for patients to retain their limbs and gradually return to normal life.
