Sedentary lifestyle, diet high in purine-rich foods and unhealthy living habits make increased uric acid increasingly common.
Uric acid is a product created when the body breaks down purines. Normally, this substance is excreted through the kidneys. However, when too much uric acid accumulates, crystals can deposit, forming stones in the kidneys and urinary tract.
Uric acid stones can cause severe pain, urinary tract obstruction, and affect kidney function if not detected early. Here are warning signs that should not be ignored:
Back pain
This is a typical sign of kidney stones. Pain often appears in the hip area, under the ribs, can spread down to the lower abdomen or groin and occur in episodes.
Bloody urine
Urinary acid crystals or stones can rub, damaging the mucous membrane of the urinary tract, causing urine to be pink, red or brown, or only detected by testing.
Urinary pain, frequent urination
Pelvic stones stimulate the urinary tract, causing patients to often have urinary retention, little urination, accompanied by burning sensation or pain when urinating.
CLOUDY urine, foul odor
The accumulation of uric acid crystals and urine stagnation can cause cloudy urine with an unpleasant odor. If the condition persists, patients should see a doctor to rule out kidney disease or urinary tract infection.
People with gout or who have been diagnosed with hyperuricemia have a higher risk of kidney stones due to uric acid. Research also shows that the higher the level of uric acid in the blood, the greater the risk of kidney stones, even in people who have not been diagnosed with hyperuricemia.
