This is the first hospital in the Central region to establish a Child Protection Board and put into operation a specialized counseling room for children.
The Children's Protection Board consists of 9 members, headed by BS.CKII Vo Huu Hoi, Deputy Director of Da Nang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. The Board has the task of advising and implementing activities to protect children in the hospital environment; detecting, receiving and treating cases of children being injured; and at the same time providing counseling services and connecting with children's protection networks outside the community.
The Board will coordinate in early detection of suspected cases of violence and child abuse; organize timely examination and treatment of physical and psychological injuries; implement emergency protection measures; collect and preserve evidence to serve forensic examination when necessary.
The hospital also developed a 5-step childcare and support process, from receiving, screening, emergency treatment to socio-psychological assessment, planning care, implementing intervention and monitoring, and evaluating results.
Along with that, the UNICEF-funded Children's Counseling and Support Room is designed in a friendly, secure and safe direction. This is where children with signs of violence or trauma have access to psychological assessment services, trauma reduction therapy and re-violence risk prevention counseling.
For cases suspected of being abused or violent, the hospital will coordinate with the police, justice, child officials and local authorities to develop emergency protection plans, ensuring safety for children even after discharge.
According to hospital statistics, in the period 2020-2025, the unit recorded 180 cases of pregnancy and childbirth in adolescence, of which 35 cases were related to violence and child abuse.
Leaders of the Da Nang City Department of Health assessed that the launch of the Children's Protection Board is an important step forward in building a comprehensive child care and protection model at medical facilities, towards the goal of putting children at the center and ensuring that all children have access to safe, appropriate and effective support services.
