On January 24, news from Hoang Anh Gia Lai University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital said that the unit had just successfully operated on the case of patient B.V.Q. (born in 1959, Gia Lai province) who had a ureteral tube severed in his body for more than 10 years, far exceeding medical recommendations.
The patient was admitted to the hospital in a state of right kidney stones, with a history of previous urinary intervention. Through examination, ultrasound and paraclinical scans, doctors discovered that the JJ probe (soft catheter) had been placed 10 years ago but had not been withdrawn as scheduled.
Currently, the catheter is broken in two sections, accompanied by stones clinging around, causing complications in the kidneys. After a professional consultation, the patient was prescribed endoscopic surgery to dissolve kidney stones and remove the entire catheter.
The surgery took place safely, removing the severed JJ probe and cleaning the gravel, minimizing urinary tract damage. Currently, the patient is stable, kidney function is monitored and continued treatment according to a specialized regimen.

Through this case, doctors recommend: "Forgetting the catheter can cause many complications such as stones sticking to the catheter head that cannot be removed by endoscopy, catheter rupture requiring surgery in many locations to remove, even catheter blockage, obstruction for a long time affecting kidney function; many cases can lead to kidney failure.
When urinary tract intervention with JJ catheter implantation, patients need to have a re-examination according to the doctor's instructions, to avoid forgetting the catheter, which seriously affects health.
