On January 23, information from Dong Hoi Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital (Quang Tri province) said that doctors of the unit performed surgery, saving a 34-year-old male patient admitted to the hospital in a particularly critical condition.
According to CKII doctor Tran Linh Giang - Head of the Department of Ear, Nose and Throat, on the afternoon of January 22, the patient was admitted to the hospital with an open wound in the neck area. Through initial examination, doctors determined that the patient had tracheostomy, pneumothorax in many areas of the neck, vascular damage causing severe blood loss, accompanied by severe respiratory failure.
Recognizing this as an urgent emergency case, the hospital activated a specialized emergency process, and at the same time mobilized many specialized departments to coordinate treatment. The patient was immediately transferred to the operating room to control airways, stop bleeding and restore important injuries in the vocal - tracheal area.
After more than 3 hours of continuous surgery, the surgery was successful, helping the patient overcome the critical condition. Currently, the patient has stabilized his vital signs and is being monitored and actively cared for at the hospital.
Dr. Giang said that surgery for severe neck injuries is a major challenge in emergency surgery, requiring close and accurate coordination between many specialties. In addition to surgery, the treatment process also lasts in the post-operative stage, posing many risks such as infection, respiratory disorders, swallowing disorders, voice and vocal throat scars.
Close monitoring, comprehensive care and multidisciplinary coordination play a decisive role in the long-term prognosis for patients with serious neck injuries," Dr. Giang emphasized.
