Previously, on May 8, Hue Central Hospital successfully performed a cross-Vietnam heart transplant, extending the life journey of patients with end-stage heart failure.
The heart donated from a brain-dead male patient at Bach Mai Hospital (Hanoi) was urgently transported to Hue during a cold blood shortage of only 4.27 minutes - a new record at the hospital. The surgery went smoothly, with the heart beating again at 10:22 p.m. the same day.
The 34-year-old female patient, who had "ordrated" a heart transplant 4 times because the test was inconsistent, recovered well after the transplant. After 2 days, the patient was alert, blood pressure was stable and the transplant heart function reached EF 55%.
Behind the miracle is the noble gesture of the wife who signed a donation for her husband. Thanks to this decision, not only his heart but also his liver, kidneys, and cornea saved at least six other patients.
This transplant once again affirms the smooth coordination and determination of the doctors and nurses of Hue Central Hospital in the journey to bring life to the patient.
