Currently, Bach Mai Hospital processes 8-9 tons of medical waste per day, of which 6-7 tons are non-harmful waste and about 1.5-1.7 tons are remaining hazardous waste.
Dr. Truong Anh Thu - Head of the Department of Infection Control - said: "All waste is collected and treated according to the correct process. Radioactive waste is managed at the Center for Nuclear Medicine and is strictly controlled from equipment to operation.

The hospital currently receives about 800 cases of CT scans per day, all of which comply with medical safety procedures.
In response to some information shared on social networks about the hospital environment, Mr. Le Hoang - Deputy Director of the Department of Health Environment Management (Ministry of Health) - affirmed: "The images spread are inaccurate. Through on-site inspection, we have not detected any violations. Bach Mai Hospital fully complies with the principles of environmental sanitation and hospital safety".
In 2016, Lao Dong Newspaper published a series of articles on: Toxic medical waste leaked from hospitals to the market. Bach Mai Hospital was once involved in a scandal related to medical waste management. The incident arose from information reflecting that the hospital did not handle the procedures properly, mixing hazardous medical waste with household waste, causing the risk of environmental pollution and affecting public health.
After that, the authorities began investigating. The results show that the hospital has some shortcomings in waste classification and storage. However, no serious violations of hazardous waste treatment have been detected.
