On April 4, according to information from Lang Son Provincial General Hospital, the team of doctors and nurses just successfully surgically removed a small pelvic tumor weighing about 6 kg for a 78-year-old female patient.
Patient H.T. H, 78 years old, in Bac Son commune, was hospitalized due to a persistent pain in the lower abdomen for a long time. The patient's abdomen gradually became larger, causing discomfort in daily life, poor appetite, rapid fullness, fatigue and anxiety.
Abdominal scan results showed that the patient had a tumor in the small pelvis area with a diameter of more than 25 cm, occupying almost the entire abdominal cavity, pushing and compressing adjacent organs such as intestines, liver, colon and bladder.
Due to the complexity of the case, the patient had an inter-departmental consultation between the Department of Diagnostic Imaging, the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery and the Department of Anesthesia - Resuscitation.
After assessing the location of the tumor, the degree of compression, the risk of damage to adjacent organs and the possibility of intervention, doctors decided to perform open surgery to remove the entire tumor.
During the surgery, the team encountered many difficulties because the tumor was large, located in the small pelvis, behind the peritoneum and adhered to many surrounding organs. After about two hours, the surgery was completed and the tumor was completely removed.
After surgery, the patient was awake, stable health, recovered well and is expected to be discharged from the hospital in the next few days.
Doctors also recommend that people should have regular health check-ups to detect abnormalities early, avoiding the disease from progressing severely.
