On August 4, Hue Central Hospital held a discharge ceremony for patient V.D.T (56 years old, residing in Quang Tri). This is the oldest cross-Vietnam heart transplant for an elderly person that the hospital has ever performed.
The patient was admitted to the hospital in early 2025 with a diagnosis of heart failure, expanded heart muscle, and liver syndrome, and was prescribed a heart transplant to maintain life.
On June 28, the hospital received news of a brain-dead heart donor at Gia Dinh People's Hospital. The crew immediately flew to Ho Chi Minh City to get a heart. At 5:13 a.m. on June 29, the heart was removed, and at 7:14 a.m. it returned to Hue; at 8:58 a.m. it was successfully transplanted into the patient's chest after 4 hours of anemia.
After surgery, the patient responded well to treatment, recovered quickly and was discharged in a stable state.
On this special occasion, Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep - Director of Hue Central Hospital presented congratulatory flowers and sent words of encouragement for patients to continue on a new journey with a healthy heart, demonstrating the efforts of the medical team and the profound humanitarian significance of organ donation and transplantation activities.
