How to reduce waistline and visceral fat in a scientific way

Instead of just focusing on losing weight, we should manage body composition, reduce visceral fat and increase muscle mass to protect long-term health.

According to Professor He Fang - a doctoral research student instructor at the Western Chinese Public Health School, Sichuan University, many people often associate obesity with overweight. But in fact, the link between overweight and disease is not entirely direct. The core problem is obesity due to visceral fat, characterized by a large waist, thin limbs, low muscle mass and a lot of fat accumulated in the abdomen.

He said that this amount of visceral fat is the root cause of many chronic diseases. When fat accumulates excessively, fat cells are damaged and break down, releasing substances that attract immune cells to process. This process causes immune cells to produce many inflammatory factors, leading to mild chronic inflammation.

Inflammatory factors first of all reduce the normal activity of insulin, causing insulin resistance. As a result, blood sugar increases, blood pressure increases, lipid metabolism disorders and finally promotes a series of metabolic diseases such as hypertension, dyslipidemia and diabetes. Therefore, waist circumference control is one of the important measures to prevent and control chronic diseases.

Regarding how to implement it, the first factor to pay attention to is diet. The biggest cause of fat accumulation is not eating too much fat but consuming too much sugar, because sugar is the most easily converted substance into fat. Therefore, it is necessary to control the amount of carbohydrates in the diet.

In addition, Mr. He Fang recommends switching from "weight management" thinking to "body composition management", focusing on increasing muscle mass and reducing fat to improve basic metabolism. In addition, some types of probiotics that have the ability to improve glucose metabolism are also considered a new support method in reducing waist circumference.

However, the goal of reducing visceral fat should not be achieved by strict diets, because this is not a sustainable solution and does not really help improve body composition.
