On November 14, news from the Agricultural Technical and Service Center of Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan Province said that the Veterinary Department of Region VI had tested positive for rabies virus on a sample of a stray dog that bit a person.
Previously, the center received a report from the People's Committee of Tien Thanh Commune, Phan Thiet City, stating that a stray dog suspected of having rabies had bitten three people in a household in Tien Hai Village, Tien Thanh Commune. The center coordinated with the People's Committee to verify and later determined that the dog had died.
The center collected samples and sent them to the Veterinary Department of Region VI for testing and organized the destruction of the dog's carcass according to regulations; at the same time, coordinated with local authorities to visit the household bitten by the dog and encouraged the family to get vaccinated against rabies in humans.
The center has sprayed and disinfected the area where there are rabid dogs and vaccinated dogs and cats against rabies in households in this area and surrounding areas. The health of 3 people bitten by rabid dogs is currently being monitored.
Since the beginning of 2024, Binh Thuan has had 9 deaths suspected of being caused by rabies.
