Signs of scoliosis
According to Dr. Anmol, a neurosurgist at Manipal Hospital (India), this condition affects about 2% of the global population, especially common in adolescents during the period of rapid growth before puberty.
Spinal jerkiness is often manifested through some recognizable signs such as as asymmetry in the hips or shoulders, neck imbalance and changes in shoulder height.
In severe cases, patients may see prominent ribs. However, there are also cases where patients do not show obvious symptoms, making it difficult to detect the disease.
Early detection is very important, the doctor will conduct a general health check, examining the asymmetry in the hips and shoulders. If you suspect scoliosis, X-rays will help determine the severity and treatment direction, said Anmol.
Treatment and prevention measures
Depending on the severity of the curve, the treatment method will vary. If the curvature is below 25 degrees, the doctor will advise the patient to check periodically every six months to monitor the progress.
For cases with curves from 25 to 40 degrees, the doctor will prescribe a back brace to prevent the condition from getting worse. Suppressors cannot regulate scoliosis but can help control the progression of the disease.
Dr. Anmol also explains that surgery will be considered when the curvature exceeds 40 degrees. Spinal flat surgical procedures use bars, screws and bone grafts to straighten the spine, helping to relieve pain and improve posture for patients.
Sharing the same view, Dr. Sunny Kamat, a spinal orthodized surgeon at Manipal Hospital (India), emphasized that astigmatism in adolescents (AIS) is a common form, with unknown causes and progress depending on bone maturity.
Long-term studies show that although 61% of untreated AIS patients may experience back pain after 50 years, many people do not experience physical limitations.
To prevent progression, Dr. Kamat recommends that parents and doctors closely monitor the development of the disease, especially in children.
"Specialty physical therapy exercises and orthopedic tapes can help slow the progression of scoliosis in older children," said Mr. Kamat.
Scoliosis is a condition that needs to be diagnosed and treated promptly to avoid long-term complications.
Regular monitoring and appropriate intervention from the doctor are very important to ensure the best treatment outcomes.
The combination of treatment methods such as braces, physical therapy and surgery when necessary will help improve the quality of life for patients, especially children and adolescents.
