The latest statistics from the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control show that in week 12 (17-23.), Ho Chi Minh City had 348 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, an increase of 84.4% compared to the average of the previous 4 weeks.
The total number of hand, foot and mouth disease cases accumulated from the beginning of 2025 to week 12 is 1,917 cases. Districts with cases over 100,000 people are Binh Tan District, District 8 and District 6.
MSc. Dr. Le Thi Hong Nga - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control said that in the city, the measles epidemic situation has been well controlled. However, children who have not been vaccinated against measles are still at risk of getting sick.
A worrying thing is that the current dengue fever epidemic and hand, foot and mouth disease are two diseases that are circulating in the city. According to monitoring in March, hand, foot and mouth disease tends to increase. This is the time of the season and may continue to increase in the coming time.
According to MSc. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Qui - Deputy Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Children's Hospital 2, in addition to focusing resources on treating children with measles, the unit is currently in charge of adding children with hand, foot and mouth disease. The department divides into 2 separate isolation areas for children with measles and hand, foot and mouth disease, dengue fever and other diseases.
To prevent hand, foot and mouth disease, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health recommends that people and the community proactively follow the 3-clean motto: eat (drink) clean, stay clean, have clean hands and play with toys.
Wash your hands regularly with soap in running water many times a day, especially before cooking, before eating, feeding your baby, before picking up the baby, after going to the toilet, after changing diapers and doing baby hygiene.
Wash your child's daily surfaces and contact tools such as toys, school supplies, door handles, stairs, desks, chairs, floors with soap or regular detergents.
Implement good food hygiene, ensure the use of clean water in daily activities.
Do not let children come into contact with sick people or suspect their illness. When detecting signs of suspected illness in children, take them to the nearest medical facility for examination immediately.
