On February 2 (early morning of January 3, Vietnam time), President Donald Trump and the White House shared a series of charts on social media, showing the tax rates that they believe other countries are applying to the US.
These tariffs are said to include currencies and trade barriers of each country, CNBC reported.
The charts include a yellow column next to displaying the new US tax rate for each country and territory.
In most cases, these tariffs are approximately half of what the Trump administration claimed each country had applied to the United States (blue column).
These countervailing tariffs are not necessarily the only tariffs that countries and territories will face from the US.
The White House told CNBC that the new counterpart tax rate on China will be added to the current tax rate of 20%, meaning the total actual tax rate on Beijing during Trump's term is 54%.
Mr. Trump said his plan to set a minimum tax rate of 10% across the board. However, according to his charts, many countries and territories will face significantly higher tariffs.
We will impose a tax of approximately half of what they have applied to us. Therefore, this tax rate will not completely counter" - Mr. Trump declared in a speech at the White House Red Garden.
But this half-do equivalent includes their assemble of all taxes, non-current barriers and other forms of fraud, Trump added.
In the list of countries and territories under the reciprocal tax of the United States below, the green column is the tax rate that Mr. Trump thinks that the countries/territories to the US, the yellow column is the reciprocal tax level that the US imposed.
