On March 13, An Giang Department of Health reported on a suspected food poisoning incident, some people showed symptoms of abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea after eating cakes and had to be hospitalized for treatment.
Specifically, Rach Gia Medical Center has urgently conducted investigation, verified information and handled the case.
According to a report from Rach Gia Medical Center, Department of General Health, on the occasion of International Women's Day March 8, Bank V presented salted egg sponge cakes to partners and customers of 6 agencies and units.
Through investigation, it was determined that the total number of people who ate cakes investigated was 98 people, of which 97 people had symptoms of abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea. The number of people who had to be hospitalized for treatment was 43 people, with no deaths. All patients had the same symptoms and manifestations ranging from mild to moderate, and by the morning of March 13th, they had all been discharged from the hospital.
Kien Giang General Hospital took specimens (fertilizer samples) and discovered a strain of Salmonella species.
The first case was detected (hospitalized) at 5:00 PM on March 6; the last case started with symptoms at 0:30 AM on March 8 (no hospitalization, detected through investigation).
Through the investigation results, it was determined that the cause of the dish was salted egg sponge cake provided by Business Household C. On the evening of March 7, Rach Gia Ward People's Committee directed the establishment of a Food Safety and Hygiene Inspection Team to conduct inspections at Business Household C. Through inspection, it was determined that this establishment had violations such as using people in direct contact with food without wearing full labor protection; Solid waste collection tools without lids; Failure to maintain hygiene at the processed food business location.
The inspection team requested the facility to temporarily suspend operations until there is a conclusion from functional agencies and assigned the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Department to make a record of administrative violations and advise the Ward People's Committee to issue a decision on administrative sanctions.
Currently, functional agencies are continuing to investigate and handle the case according to regulations.
