In the afternoon of March 13, at the toll station at the Phan Thiet intersection of the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway (section passing through Ham Kiem commune, Lam Dong province), a prolonged traffic jam occurred.
Many cars traveling on the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway in the direction from Ho Chi Minh City to Phan Thiet, when reaching the above intersection and turning out of the expressway, reach the toll station.

However, due to problems with the toll collection system at the station, vehicles were congested for a long time.
Mr. Le Phuc, a person traveling in a car through the toll station at the above time, said that when the car was about to pass through the toll station, the barrier automatically lowered. Toll station staff had to use their phones to take pictures of each vehicle's license plate to record data.

The Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway toll collection operating unit said that the cause was a technical malfunction in the barrier system. The unit contacted the contractor for urgent repair, but the handling was slow, so the congestion situation still lasted.

To reduce traffic pressure, toll station staff temporarily use phones to take photos of license plates of vehicles passing through as a basis for toll collection later. However, the number of vehicles continues to increase, causing this area to become increasingly congested.
Previously, from 10 pm on March 2, 2026, the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway officially organized toll collection. During the inspection, Road Management Zone IV recorded many shortcomings that may affect toll collection management, revenue control and traffic safety assurance.

This agency has requested the Thang Long Project Management Board - the project investor - and related units to urgently overcome arising problems, with an completion deadline no later than March 10, 2026.
However, by the afternoon of March 13, the incident at the toll station continued to occur, affecting the traffic flow of vehicles.
