Is vaginal hygiene solution really safe

Hygiene solutions for the private area are becoming increasingly common, but abuse can disrupt the natural balance, cause irritation and increase the risk of infection.

The vagina has a self-cleaning mechanism

According to Dr. Preety Aggarwal, gynecologist, Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Motherhood Hospital (India), the vagina is one of the few organs capable of self-cleaning thanks to the natural microbial system. “The vagina contains beneficial bacteria, mainly Lactobacillus, which help maintain an acidic environment and prevent disease-causing bacteria. Deep washing or using inappropriate products can disrupt this protective mechanism,” she emphasized.

Biologically, vaginal pH fluctuates around 3.5 - 4.7. When this balance is disrupted, the risk of bacterial vaginitis, yeast infection, dryness and abnormal discharge will increase. Many international studies show that regular use of feminine hygiene solutions does not help reduce infection as advertised, but on the contrary can cause more recurrence.

Side effects that should not be underestimated

According to Dr. Aggarwal, even products labeled as mild or pH-balanced can cause side effects if used daily. “Fragrances, foaming agents and antiseptics in cleaning solutions can cause irritation, dry skin, itching, and even loss of beneficial bacteria,” she said.

A study published in BMC Women's Health shows that women who use vaginal hygiene products regularly have a higher rate of vaginitis than those who only clean with clean water. Hiding scents with fragrant products also makes many people ignore abnormal signs, delaying examination and treatment.

International obstetricians and gynecologists all agree: a mild natural odor is normal. Only when the smell changes significantly, accompanied by itching, burning, pain or abnormal discharge, do women need to go for examination instead of arbitrarily using more products.

According to doctors' recommendations, just gently wash the outer vulva with clean or warm water, avoid vaginal discharge, wear breathable cotton underwear and maintain healthy living habits. Hygiene solution should only be used in special cases and according to medical advice.

It's a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit.
