On February 27 - right on Vietnamese Doctors' Day - at the Central Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, a special moment took place: baby Bong was officially discharged from the hospital after more than 4 months of treatment at the Neonatal Center.
Few people know that behind that happy moment is the tearful journey, the will of a young mother giving birth for the first time.
On October 22, 2025, baby Bong was born when she was only 25 weeks pregnant, weighing only 500 grams - smaller than an adult's hand. Immediately, the baby was transferred to the Neonatal Center in a state of premature birth, accompanied by a series of dangerous complications: infection, cerebral hemorrhage, anemia.
For the first time being a mother, looking at the tiny baby lying in the incubator, I could only cry. The baby was so small that I didn't dare to touch it," Ms. P.T (Ha Tinh) recalled with emotion.
In the early days, every breath of the baby was closely monitored. Each ml of milk was carefully calculated. Each blood transfusion, each gram of weight gain was a persistent effort of the team of doctors and nurses.
Throughout the treatment journey, there were nights when the young mother could hardly sleep.
Sometimes I was very scared. But the doctors always said:'You are progressing little by little'. That saying helped me gain more faith to be stronger," Ms. P.T shared.
At the Newborn Center, white-shirted soldiers still silently work day and night. For them, each small life is a war that is not allowed to be let go.
From a fragile 500g baby, after more than 4 months of treatment, baby Bong achieved a weight of more than 3kg - meeting the conditions for discharge from the hospital.
“It feels like my child has just been born a second time. I can only say my sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses of the Neonatal Center – the people who kept my child alive.”
That moment is not only the joy of a family alone, but also a meaningful gift for doctors on the traditional day of the industry.
At the Neonatal Center, doctors and nurses receive and care for hundreds of premature babies every day, many cases of complex and high-risk diseases.
Baby Bong's story is just one of many revival journeys taking place silently here – where perseverance, expertise and compassionate hearts together continue to write the miracles of life.
Baby Bong's 4-month journey is not only a medical achievement, but also a testament to the belief, motherhood and dedication of the "white-shirted soldiers" - those who silently protect life, day by day, hour by hour.
