Liver transplant - a life-and-death race
With the successful implementation of 4 liver transplants, Da Nang Hospital has officially put its name on the Vietnamese organ transplant map, becoming the first and only provincial-level hospital to date to deploy liver transplant technology - one of the most complex and specialized techniques in the field of surgery.

BSCKII Le Tu Dung - Deputy Head of Gastrointestinal Surgery Department, Da Nang Hospital said that liver transplantation is not only a high-level professional technique but also a fierce race with time and patient hope of survival.
To master this technique, the Department of Gastroenterology and related specialties sent 6 doctors and 3 nurses to train at Central Military Hospital 108 for a period of 3 to 9 months.
The training process includes the entire liver transplant process, from evaluating patients before surgery, performing techniques during transplantation, to post-transplant care and monitoring. Synchronous and serious preparation between departments and rooms is an important foundation for the hospital to successfully deploy the first liver transplants.

To date, with professional support from Central Military Hospital 108, Da Nang Hospital has successfully performed 4 pairs of liver transplants, marking an important step forward in the development of organ transplantation techniques in the Central region.
According to Dr. Dung, liver transplantation is often indicated for patients with end-stage cirrhosis, liver cancer or some congenital diseases such as biliary atrophy. These are all severe cases, in which liver transplantation is almost the only chance of survival.
Each transplant is a journey full of pressure. When the liver is newly functioning again in the patient's body, it is not only a technical success but also a revival of a life," Dr. Dung emphasized.
Master, Doctor Le Tuan Anh - Da Nang Hospital, who directly participated in the liver transplant, and Mr. Le Ngoc Hiep and his wife, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lanh - Ms. Lanh is the person who donated the liver to her husband, Mr. Hiep - still maintain "external emotions". That is an indescribable feeling after the success of the first liver transplants of Da Nang Hospital. It is the spread of joy and happiness of the victims' families, it is the hope and belief that patients, their families and the people of Da Nang, and the entire Central and Central Highlands regions... like a "tonic", to show gratitude to the doctors.
Towards regional organ transplant center
Dr. Le Duc Nhan - Director of Da Nang Hospital said that the unit is orienting development according to the multi-center hospital model, in which building specialized medical centers to serve people not only in Da Nang but also provinces and cities in the Central - Central Highlands region.

Over the past time, the hospital has been synchronously invested in facilities, equipment and human resources. In addition to 4 successful liver transplant pairs, the hospital has also performed 46 kidney transplants and many stem cell transplants.
In the coming time, the hospital will continue to improve professional procedures, train in-depth teams to effectively implement not only liver transplants but also other tissue and organ transplant techniques. The long-term goal is to build Da Nang Hospital into a specialized organ transplant center of the Central - Central Highlands region, contributing to reducing the burden on upper levels and bringing more life opportunities for many seriously ill patients.
On the occasion of the visit to celebrate the 71st anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day on February 24, on behalf of the leaders of Da Nang City, Secretary of the City Party Committee Le Ngoc Quang awarded the Certificate of Merit from the Chairman of the City People's Committee to Da Nang Hospital for its outstanding achievements in successfully implementing the first liver transplants from living organ donors.
