On September 4, the National Medical Council announced the plan to organize the 2027 medical examination and treatment practice capacity assessment test for 4 titles including: medical doctor, traditional medicine doctor, dentist - maxillofacial surgeon and preventive medicine doctor.
The activity is implemented in accordance with the provisions of the 2023 Law on Medical Examination and Treatment, Decree 96/2023/ND-CP of the Government and the 2026-2027 activity adjustment plan of the National Medical Council.
According to the expected plan, 2 professional competency assessment tests will be organized in 2027.
The first inspection is expected to be held in March 2027, with the expected time to receive registration documents in January.
The second inspection is expected to take place in December 2027, and the time to receive applications is expected in September.
The National Medical Council noted that the above timelines are only expected. Official information about each test period, including registration time, venue and related requirements, will continue to be updated.
The test is organized directly on computers or tablets at locations announced when candidates register.
A noteworthy point is that the test content will not be built according to a common structure for all 4 titles. Instead, the test questions are designed to suit each field of practice.
The question format, capacity domains, list of essential professional issues, structure and matrix of test questions are specified in separate decisions of the National Medical Council.
This is the first time Vietnam has organized a medical examination and treatment competency assessment test for doctors.
Unlike the approach that only focuses on the training and degree process, the test aims to assess the actual capacity needed for practitioners to perform professional work safely and effectively.
