On December 8, in Hanoi, K Hospital cooperated with Bright Tomorrow Fund to successfully organize the "Empower Run" to raise funds to support disadvantaged cancer patients nationwide. The running track in the West Lake area with 2.5km and 5km distances on a cold and rainy day could not stop the will of each athlete, including many cancer patients.
Ms. Vu Hoang Anh (56 years old, Hanoi) has been treated for breast cancer for 3 years and excitedly participated in the race. She shared: "I have been treated for breast cancer since 2022. When I was diagnosed and had surgery, my daily life was interrupted for a very short time. After surgery, I focused on treatment with chemotherapy and targeted therapy according to the doctor's instructions.
Along with persistent physical training, my health has been much more stable for the past 3 years. I am currently taking medicine and having regular follow-ups at the Internal Medicine Department 6 of K Hospital. For me, cancer is not something to be afraid of, but only a challenge that every patient should strive to overcome and win. I practice jogging every day to defeat cancer, live every moment to the fullest, and love and cherish life more."
Coming into contact with running, Ms. Hoang Anh seems to have found a new goal to overcome her own limits in physical training, she is passionate about conquering challenges in each race she participates in. Unlike what people often think of a cancer patient, she participates in running competitions with a high determination, achieving many top achievements. On days when she does not participate in the race, she often maintains the habit of running combined with light exercise for 30-45 minutes every morning.
Also keeping a positive spirit, Mr. Vu Viet Thanh (44 years old) is a living proof of resilience and extraordinary will. From overcoming acute leukemia - one of the most dangerous blood cancers, he has turned his recovery journey into a source of inspiration spreading to thousands of people. Each of his running steps is a story of overcoming one's own limits.
From the first difficult steps, just a few steps out of breath after the bone marrow transplant, he has conquered 5 major Marathons, proving that determination and will can overcome all challenges.
Mr. Vu Viet Thanh continues to spread his positive energy through the "Relay Journey" race, carrying his own story, from a bedridden patient to a marathon runner. He has a message: "Illness is not a stopping point, but an opportunity for us to discover the strength within ourselves."
Prof. Dr. Le Van Quang - Director of K Hospital - said that the "Empower Run" is not just a regular sports event launched by the Hospital and other units, but a long journey to light up hope, connect love and spread positive energy to cancer patients. All proceeds from the race as well as donations from benefactors will be announced and transferred directly to the Bright Tomorrow Fund to share with disadvantaged cancer patients across the country.
