Recently, representatives of the Tam Long Vang Social Fund and the Red Cross Society of Kien Giang province visited and presented donations from readers of Lao Dong Newspaper to people in difficult circumstances in An Bien district.
After the article “Mother of 3 with cancer fights to raise her children” was published in Lao Dong Newspaper, readers from near and far sent 9,530,000 VND in support to the family to help ease their difficulties.
The cries and laughter of three children filled the small house of Nguyen Thi Diem Quyen (born in 1999), residing in Phu Huong hamlet, Dong Thai commune, An Bien district, Kien Giang. But the joy was not complete when the cancer was raging and causing her pain.
In 2023, 3 babies were born (triplets). The joy did not last long, but nearly 6 months later, Ms. Quyen had persistent pain in her left breast. She went to the Provincial General Hospital for examination and was diagnosed with breast cancer. After that, she went to the Oncology Hospital 2, Ho Chi Minh City to find a solution to treat the disease.
To have money to treat his daughter, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung (Quyen's father) sold 3 hectares of land that his parents gave him. Since his daughter got sick, the source of breast milk for the children has been cut off, the cost of milk and diapers for the 3 children each month is not less than 10 million VND. His son-in-law has an unstable income from fishing, so Mr. Dung has to take care of many expenses alone. His salary from teaching, if combined, can cover milk, diapers and food expenses for the whole family, but the cost of long-term treatment for his children is beyond his ability.
Receiving donations from readers, Quyen emotionally shared: “Although I am sick, thinking about my children, I have to be stronger to fight the disease. I am very grateful to the readers of Lao Dong Newspaper for supporting and helping me during this difficult time.”
Mr. Duong Chi Dung - Party Cell Secretary, Head of Phu Huong Hamlet, Dong Thai Commune, who also visited Quyen's family, said that the locality and the district's Fatherland Front at all levels are also very concerned, providing support and sharing with Quyen's family. However, the treatment will be long-term and will be very costly, so we hope that kind-hearted people from near and far will support Quyen's situation.
Representatives of the Tam Long Vang Social Security Fund also visited and presented an additional amount of nearly 5 million VND to the boy Danh Thanh Duoc (residing in Bao Tram hamlet, Nam Yen commune, An Bien district). Duoc is the character in the article “9-year-old boy collects scrap metal to support his sick father” published in Lao Dong Newspaper, which previously received more than 10 million VND in support from readers.
