Doctors at Vinmec International General Hospital performed 2 humane liver transplants.
In medicine, there have been many cases of children donating liver to their parents, or parents donating liver to their children, as blood strings that prolong life.
On the contrary, the number of cases of husband and wife donating each other's livers can be counted on the fingers. The transplant of Ms. Duong Thi Men (28 years old, Hai Phong) is one of the rare cases.
As a young doctor who usually wears a white blouse to save people every day, one day Ms. Men suddenly becomes a patient, facing a serious liver disease that causes immediate liver failure, serious decline in liver function and is diagnosed with a poor prognosis with a fragile chance to live.
Before the death anniversary, her husband - Mr. To Quang Hau (33 years old) volunteered to go for testing. Despite the risks that may come, he only said one sentence that silenced everyone: "If I can't give you complete happiness, I will give you a part of my body, a part of my life".
The surgery was performed by a team of doctors and leading medical experts from Vinmec using modern endoscopic liver cutting technique combined with ICG fluorescent dyeing, helping to minimize complications and shorten recovery time.
Thanks to the love of her husband and the solid expertise of the team of doctors at Vinmec International General Hospital, Ms. Men's life opportunities have been extended, continuing to accompany Mr. Hau on the journey ahead.
Unlike Ms. Men's case, Ms. Hoang Thi Thu Hien (44 years old, Hanoi) was hospitalized in critical condition, with a coma, and gastrointestinal bleeding, her life was only counted for hours. Carrying on underlying diseases - Wilson, cirrhosis, multiple miscarriages - almost closed the door to treatment.
At the moment of life and death, Mr. Nguyen The Hanh - her husband chose the only way to donate liver to save his wife even though the doctor said "Ms. Hien only has a 1% chance of survival", the transplant took place on Mr. Hanh's birthday.
For me, there is no gift more precious than my wifes life, Hanh was determined.
The transplant is performed by doctors according to international standards, from compatible screening, assessment of liver function of the donor, ICG-supported endoscopic liver surgery, to special post-operative care in the intensive care unit (ICU of the liver and gallbladder transplant). Thanks to the minimized risk of complications, Ms. Hien quickly overcame the critical condition and is recovering positively.
Associate Professor, Dr. Le Van Thanh, Deputy General Director of External Affairs, Vinmec Healthcare System, shared: In medicine, 1% of opportunities are also extremely valuable, but to turn those opportunities into life, love, sacrifice and trust are needed to never give up.
The two rare transplants - the two husbands donated the liver to save his wife - are both a medical success and a testament to the sacred value of love.
