According to fitness trainer and lifestyle expert Luke Coutinho, co-founder of Luke Coutinho Holistic Healing systems Private Ltd (India), not all weight loss diets are safe. In fact, some popular diet trends today can have serious health consequences.
The price to pay for quick weight loss
Luke warns that harsh diets can help with rapid weight loss but are not sustainable. Excessive calorie cutting often leads to nutritional deficiencies, prolonged fatigue, and impaired metabolism. The body is even at risk of falling into a state of malnutrition, leading to a series of problems such as weakness, loss of energy and susceptibility to disease.
Dangerous diets to avoid
Some popular diets that are currently spreading on social media are being listed by Luke as "red warnings" including:
- A low-salt diet and the use of diuretic drugs have no medical conditions.
- Use weight loss drugs such as Ozempic or Mounjaro without changing lifestyle or eating habits.
- Low-carb diet, high levels of createdine without kidney function testing.
- Low-water diet, excessive intermittent fasting, or uncientific weight loss trends.
According to Luke, these methods can seriously affect the kidneys, liver, heart, hormones, mental health, bone density, digestive system and even cognition.
Not only causing physiological imbalance, these diets also disrupt emotions, cause insomnia, reduce cravings and cause the body to be completely exhausted.
There are no shortcuts to lose weight safely
Health coach Luke emphasizes that each person has their own "biological body type", and there is no general formula or miracle drug that works for everyone.
What is necessary is to clearly understand your body, combine the right knowledge, maintain discipline, perseverance and live simply.
Towards sustainability
Instead of pursuing risky weight loss methods, people adopt a healthy and long-term lifestyle: exercise regularly, eat a balanced diet, manage stress and get enough sleep.
"Eating less salt should only be applied when prescribed by a doctor. Taking advantage of this to reduce water retention is extremely dangerous, Luke said.
Side effects that can occur when following an unscientific diet include: kidney failure, liver failure, insomnia, increased stress hormone cortisol, hair loss, darker skin and loss of interest in life.
