According to information from Vinmec International General Hospital, after conducting in-depth examinations and consulting with experts, doctors at Vinmec International General Hospital determined that Xuan Son's injury was more serious than initially reported. The consultation results showed that Xuan Son had a complex closed fracture of the middle third of the two tibia bones, with a large fragment.
Doctors at the Orthopedic Trauma & Sports Medicine Center (Vinmec International General Hospital) have decided on a closed bone fusion surgery using intramedullary nails with pins under the fluoroscopy monitor. This is a minimally invasive surgical solution, helping to minimize soft tissue damage and ensure a quick recovery.
The surgery is expected to last 1 hour, after which Xuan Son will be transferred to the intensive care unit for monitoring and assessment.

Previously, striker Nguyen Xuan Son had to leave the field in the middle of the first half of the second leg of the 2024 ASEAN Cup final due to injury.
The player was quickly taken to the hospital by ambulance, with staff from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) following closely to support. Xuan Son's wife was also present at the hospital and updated him on the match situation via phone. After the emergency treatment, Xuan Son regained consciousness and still tried to watch his teammates play.
After discussing with doctors, VFF decided to bring striker Xuan Son back to the country for surgery and treatment at the Orthopedic Trauma & Sports Medicine Center, Vinmec International General Hospital.
At the time Xuan Son was injured, there were two treatment options. One was to let Son stay in Thailand for treatment. The other was to bring the striker back home. However, the VFF decided to bring Xuan Son back home for surgery on a fracture in his right leg.
