On the evening of November 23, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health informed that as of week 46, the city recorded 12,013 cases of dengue fever, a decrease of 27.8% compared to the same period in 2023.
Ho Chi Minh City is the locality with the highest number of dengue fever cases in the Southern region, accounting for 25% of the total number of cases in the region. The city has also recorded 1 death due to dengue fever.
Through monitoring dengue fever risk points, the City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) recorded that all risk points have mosquito larvae.
The risk of dengue fever appears everywhere and is closely linked to the daily life of every family, present from inner city to suburbs and in all districts, wards and communes.
The risk of dengue fever cases will continue to increase if drastic measures are not taken.
Recently, the dengue vaccine has been licensed for use in Vietnam. Active immunization with vaccines is a measure to help prevent the risk of disease, reduce the risk of hospitalization and severe disease.
Dengue vaccination is part of a comprehensive solution to prevent dengue fever.
Measures to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and prevent mosquito bites should be maintained regularly even after vaccination.
To strengthen dengue fever prevention in the last months of the year, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health requested medical centers and health stations to thoroughly investigate and handle dengue fever cases and outbreaks in the area.
Units need to closely monitor the epidemic situation in the area to provide timely and effective treatment, not allowing the epidemic to break out and spread.
Monitoring and strict control of dengue fever risk points in the area also need to be carried out simultaneously.
The Department of Health also requested the People's Committees of districts, wards and communes to continue to resolutely implement activities such as maintaining the elimination of breeding grounds for mosquitoes that transmit dengue fever, promoting communication activities on disease prevention and control, and sanctioning administrative violations in disease prevention.
The education sector needs to strengthen epidemic prevention activities in schools.
The Department of Health noted that in each activity of each department, it is necessary to assess the impact on the surrounding environment and the risk of disease outbreaks, in order to have fundamental solutions.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health also emphasized that each individual and family needs to proactively find and remove containers that can potentially generate mosquito larvae.
When someone in the family shows symptoms of suspected dengue fever, they should be taken to a medical facility for diagnosis and appropriate treatment instructions.
