On June 22, Yersin Nha Trang General Hospital said that it had organized a nutritional guidance session for families with children with type 1 diabetes being treated at the hospital.
At the program, parents are guided to develop a suitable diet plan for children, how to calculate the amount of carbohydrates in the diet, choose food according to the glycemic index (GI) and coordinate with insulin dosages in each meal.
The content is illustrated by actual data from pediatric patients being treated at the Department of Pediatrics, helping families easily apply it in the process of caring for children at home.
Through this, parents have more knowledge to coordinate with medical staff in maintaining stable blood sugar for children.
According to the Department of Pediatrics - Yersin Nha Trang General Hospital, currently 100% of children with type 1 diabetes in the department are treated according to the new insulin protocol, which helps to control blood sugar more flexibly, limits unwanted blood sugar increases or decreases, and creates conditions for children to maintain activities close to normal life.
In addition, 75% of pediatric patients have access to the continuous blood glucose monitoring system (CGM).
This device helps monitor blood sugar continuously, early warns of the risk of increased or decreased blood sugar, and provides data to support doctors in adjusting diets and insulin dosages appropriately for each child.
Treating type 1 diabetes in children does not only stop at insulin injections or periodic blood sugar tests, but is a continuous monitoring and adjustment process based on the coordination between the doctor, family and the child themselves.
