Dengue fever: Don't be too happy when children lose fever
According to information from the Ministry of Health, from the beginning of 2026 to April, the infectious disease surveillance system recorded 31,927 cases of dengue fever, including 4 deaths. It is forecasted that the number of dengue fever cases will continue to increase, especially during the peak period from May to November every year.
MSc. Dr. Ton That Canh Tri - Professional Medical Manager of Long Chau pharmacy system and vaccination center recommends that dengue fever is a dangerous disease, transmitted from person to person through the midstream of Aedes mosquitoes. Newborns; pregnant women; people over 65 years old; people with underlying diseases are susceptible to severe complications when contracting this disease.
The characteristic manifestations of the disease are sudden high fever, headache, fatigue. Pay special attention to parents, the dangerous stage of the disease can become more severe when the child starts to lose fever. Warning signs of severe dengue fever complications include: abdominal pain, frequent vomiting, bleeding, cold hands and feet, exhaustion...
The doctor emphasized that in this stage, the disease progresses quickly and is dangerous, and can be life-threatening. Parents need to closely monitor their children to have care measures and take them to the doctor in time.
Japanese encephalitis can leave serious sequelae
Japanese encephalitis (summer encephalitis) is a dangerous disease that can cause neurological damage, spreading due to Culex mosquitoes biting and sucking blood from infected animals and then biting people. This mosquito species is common in the North, appearing a lot in hot seasons, living in bushes in the garden during the day, flying into houses at night to suck livestock blood and bite people. In our country, the highest incidence is in the 5- 9-year-old age group.
Children with Japanese encephalitis often experience high fever, headache, vomiting, and fatigue. Especially, when the disease becomes severe, it causes many serious complications: pneumonia, urinary tract infections, exhaustion, ulcers, respiratory failure... even death. Worryingly, the disease can leave very serious sequelae in children such as: mental disorders, paralysis, language disorders, convulsions, epilepsy, bedriddenness...
Hand, foot and mouth disease increases sharply, spreading strongly in nurseries
Hand, foot and mouth disease continues to be a health hazard for children as the number of cases continues to increase. According to data from the health sector, from the beginning of 2026 to now, the whole country has recorded about 26,000 cases and 8 deaths from hand, foot and mouth disease. In March 2026 alone, the average number of cases per week increased compared to the previous month.
Doctors said that hand, foot and mouth disease is common in Vietnamese children, transmitted through the respiratory tract, digestive tract, direct contact with virus-infected objects. The disease circulates year-round, usually increasing in the period from March - May and September - October every year and easily breaks out in crowded places such as: nurseries, kindergartens, schools and crowded residential areas...
Experts recommend that parents take their children to medical facilities immediately when they have symptoms: fever from 39°C or higher, difficulty lowering, a lot of startling, abnormal fussiness, convulsions or lethargy, rapid pulse, sweating, cold hands and feet, frequent vomiting or loss of appetite.
How to increase the "defensive line" to protect the health of children and families
With summer epidemics like the above, doctors guide how to proactively prevent the disease by paying attention to keeping children's hygiene. Parents need to let children wash their hands regularly; eat cooked food, drink boiled water; clean the environment. In families, it is necessary to kill mosquitoes and sleep under mosquito nets to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes to transmit dengue fever and Japanese encephalitis. Doctors also remind parents to monitor fever signs or abnormal signs in the current period to take children to medical facilities early, helping children to be examined and treated promptly.
In particular, vaccination is an effective proactive disease prevention solution for themselves and their families. MSc. Dr. Ton That Canh Tri said that Vietnam currently has vaccines against dengue fever and Japanese encephalitis, which are highly effective in preventing diseases and severe complications. Long Chau Vaccination Center system provides a full list of vaccines against Japanese encephalitis and dengue fever, for both children and adults.
Regarding hand, foot and mouth disease, recently, the Ministry of Health has approved a hand, foot and mouth vaccine to prevent severe complications caused by the EV71 virus. This move is expected to open up opportunities for proactive disease prevention, contributing to reducing the burden of disease and avoiding medical overload during peak epidemics. Currently, the vaccination unit is preparing and accelerating implementation steps to soon bring vaccines to serve Vietnamese people.
Representatives of the Long Chau vaccination center system said that in the face of complicated epidemic developments in many localities, the need for counseling and vaccination at the center has clearly increased recently. This shows that people are becoming more proactive in preventing infectious diseases.
The unit has proactively deployed appropriate operating plans, ensuring stable vaccine supply throughout the system. At the same time, the entire vaccination process is strictly implemented according to the professional regulations of the Ministry of Health, from screening, injection indication, injection implementation to post-vaccination monitoring, to ensure maximum safety.
