On the afternoon of April 20, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety said that after a process of investigation according to procedures, the unit concluded that the incident that occurred at Binh Quoi Tay Primary School on April 7 was a food poisoning case.
Out of a total of 740 people using semi-boarding meals on April 7, 266 people showed symptoms, 190 people had to be hospitalized, and no deaths were recorded.
Regarding the cause, epidemiological and statistical analysis results show that most food samples have phenomenon of cross-contamination, in which flan and cabbage soup cooked with meat are the foods at highest risk.
The pathogens identified include Salmonella spp. as the main agent, along with E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety determined that the underlying cause is the Branch of Huu Phuoc Trading and Service Production Transportation Co., Ltd., a unit providing ready-to-eat meals for Binh Quoi Tay Elementary School.
