Nghe An - Banh mi shop Q. fined 18 million VND after 64 people were food poisoned after using banh mi at this establishment.

On May 11, Mr. Nguyen Van Loi - Chairman of Dien Chau Commune People's Committee (Nghe An province) said that functional agencies have issued a decision to fine bread shop Q. 18 million VND for violating food safety regulations in the process of processing and trading food.

Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported, dozens of people showed symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea after eating bread at Q bread shop. Many cases had to be hospitalized for treatment and health monitoring.

According to statistics from the health sector, a total of 64 people showed signs of food poisoning related to using bread at this facility.

Immediately after the incident occurred, the health sector and related units conducted inspections, took food and specimens for testing, and at the same time requested the facility to temporarily suspend operations to serve the investigation.

Test results showed that in 7 food samples tested, 5 samples were positive for Salmonella bacteria, including pate, grilled meat, sausages, floss and pickled radishes. The remaining two samples, pork sausage and ketchup, did not detect this bacteria.

According to specialized agencies, Salmonella is a common bacteria that causes gastrointestinal food poisoning. The health sector believes that the initial source of infection is likely to originate from pate and grilled meat, then spread to other foods due to cross-infection during processing.
